Dissecting Cyberbullying: An Interview with Dr. Justin W. Patchin

Cyberbullying is a pandemic which affects thousands of teens each year. Despite that fact, it isn’t impossible to stop its harmful effects in their tracks. The worst part about cyberbullying is the fact that kids who are indulging in damaging behaviors don’t realize the impact they have on their victims – in the same vein, victims have trouble speaking up against the torment that they’re going through. People like parents and teachers can take active steps against the problem, in order to contain it.

Hoewel de Antwerpse Hoeren-facebookpagina verder gaat dan cyberpesten laait de discussie rond het online wangedrag van jongeren steeds hoger op. Uit een studie van de Universiteit van Antwerpen die Knack.be kon inkijken blijkt dat elf procent van de jongeren het afgelopen half jaar het slachtoffer is geweest van cyberpesten.

Meer dan de helft van de jongeren (56,9 procent) reageert niet als ze getuige zijn van cyberpesterijen. Een op de vijf zegt niet tussenbeide te komen uit schrik zelf gepest te worden. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek aan de Universiteit Antwerpen.
